Chinese Food Recipes

Honey Walnut Shrimp and Egg Fried Rice.

Honey walnut shrimp is my favorite Chinese dish, but it's hard to find restaurants that make it, let alone make it well. So I played around in the kitchen and came up with my own recipe. You can alter it to suit
your taste and dietary needs. This is not a dish you want to make the night before getting into a bathing suit since it is guaranteed to make you bloat, but hey it's Chinese food.

Ingredients:

Shrimp - 7 large shrimp per person

Honey

Walnuts - as many as you want but a small handful is recommended

Bell peppers - chopped

Onions - chopped

Soy sauce - lower sodium

Sesame oil

Cooking oil (e.g. sunflower or canola)

Ground pepper

Chili powder

Ground ginger

Directions:

Heat a wok on medium high.

Add 1 TBS of oil.

When the oil is hot, add the onions and peppers and cook for two minutes.

Add the soy sauce, ginger, chili, and ground pepper to season.

Reduce heat to medium before adding the walnuts.

Pour the honey over the pan over all of the ingredients.

Cook the walnuts for about five minutes or until the honey has caramelized.

Add the shrimp and drizzle with more honey.

Add 1 tsp of sesame oil.

Cook the shrimp for less than two minutes per side.

Mix all of the ingredients to properly coat with the sauce and seasonings.

Serve with white, brown or egg fried rice.

Egg Fried Rice Recipe
Egg fried rice is the perfect side dish to accompany any Chinese entrée but you don't have to order from your local Chinese restaurant to enjoy it. You can use brown rice, long grain rice, basmati rice or even jasmine rice. Egg fried rice doesn't have to be unhealthy either; if you don't want to use oil, use a cooking spray like PAM. You can also substitute two egg whites for one whole egg, and use low sodium soy sauce.

Ingredients:

Eggs, egg whites or egg substitute - use one egg per person

Rice of your choice

Frozen peas and carrots

Soy sauce

Sesame oil

Ground pepper

Chili powder

Garlic powder

Onion powder

Cooking oil (sunflower or canola) or cooking spray (PAM)

Sesame seeds (if desired)
